Two Squares Again – Different Dancers

On Tuesday 27th May at Victor Harbour Senior Citizens Club we were delighted to still have two sets of Square Dancers. We had a couple of apologies – so were quite surprised to find we had some new dancers arrive wanting to learn Square Dancing. There is one common aspect within the new dancers arriving – they are all interested in having fun and meeting new friends.

Square Dancing – now with 2 sets

On Tuesday 20 May the Victor Harbour Senior Citizens Square Dancing reached TWO Squares. For the uninitiated in Square Dancing – that means 16 people dancing – 4 couples per square. Everybody had a heap of fun and that is what we aim for. Square Dancing for fun and friendship. We are not interested in doing hard stuff – just enough to challenge our brains and have a little fun.

Come and Try Day a big Success

On Saturday 26th April 2014 there was a special day at the Victor Harbour Senior Citizens Club.  The event was the Release of the new Brochure of the Club’s Activities.  The Mayor – Graham Philp was there to officially launch the new Brochure.  About 60 people attended the day and many took part in the try an activity for the first time.  I even had a go at the bowls using their special bowling tool that means you do not have to bend your back.  The members called it their bionic arm.  After the bowls there was a demonstration of Tai Chi.  I do not think my back would take too kindly to the twists and turns, even if I could stand unaided for the required time.  It was then our turn to give a Square Dance Demo.  We had a full square with four couples and showed what was learned on day 1 of our classes.  Then I asked each dancer to ask a member of the public to join us to TRY Square Dancing.  I could not believe how quick it was – in less than a minute we were Square Dancing again with TWO squares dancing.  Even the Mayor joined in, accompanied by Jacqui B.  Everyone was so enthusiastic and it was not long before everybody picked up what was being taught.  The whole Square Dance Demo was over within twenty minutes and another eight members of the public now have seen how much FUN there is in Square Dancing.  After the Square Dancing the bowls mats were relaid and more enjoyment was had by a number of beginners.  Remember that at Carrickalinga House  – 17-19 Torrens Street, Victor Harbour there are numerous activities including:

..  Tai Chi

..  Snooker

..  Square Dancing

..  Contract Bridge

..  Indoor Bowls

..  Canasta & Board Games

..  Gentle Exercise

..  Gents Cancer Centre is also in the building.

New Square Dance Class to start in Victor Harbour

My name is John V Casey and I have been a Square Dance Caller since 1977.  From 1987 to 1997 I was calling full time – approx nine times a week – in other words a full time job. I have recently moved from Queensland to South Australia.

Just today dates were finalised with the Senior Citizen Club here in Victor Harbour for me to run Square Dance Classes for them in their Victor Harbour venue.  The classes will commence on the 22nd of April and will commence at 1.30pm on that day and each Tuesday thereafter.  Full details will be included in a future post in the next few days and any non dance days will be listed in this blog.
