On Saturday 26th April 2014 there was a special day at the Victor Harbour Senior Citizens Club. The event was the Release of the new Brochure of the Club’s Activities. The Mayor – Graham Philp was there to officially launch the new Brochure. About 60 people attended the day and many took part in the try an activity for the first time. I even had a go at the bowls using their special bowling tool that means you do not have to bend your back. The members called it their bionic arm. After the bowls there was a demonstration of Tai Chi. I do not think my back would take too kindly to the twists and turns, even if I could stand unaided for the required time. It was then our turn to give a Square Dance Demo. We had a full square with four couples and showed what was learned on day 1 of our classes. Then I asked each dancer to ask a member of the public to join us to TRY Square Dancing. I could not believe how quick it was – in less than a minute we were Square Dancing again with TWO squares dancing. Even the Mayor joined in, accompanied by Jacqui B. Everyone was so enthusiastic and it was not long before everybody picked up what was being taught. The whole Square Dance Demo was over within twenty minutes and another eight members of the public now have seen how much FUN there is in Square Dancing. After the Square Dancing the bowls mats were relaid and more enjoyment was had by a number of beginners.
