Inman Valley Dance Success

The Promotional Dance at Inman Valley Hall was a major success.  Jacqueline and I arrived at about 6pm to set up the Sound Gear and Check it out.  By 6.45 the guests began arriving and by 7pm there was almost a full house of 70.

Approximately 7.30 the guests were helping themselves to a most hearty smorgasboard of food.

The dancing began at about 8.15pm and for the first bracket of dancing we had to move most of the tables as the guests all wanted to take part in the dancing.  In Square Dancing we dance for about 20 minutes and then have a break of about 3-7 minutes.  There was no let up of eagerness to dance until about 9pm and at 10pm when we decided to finish dancing we were still dancing with about 24 dancers.

All I can say is that there comradeship of the people of Inman Valley is to be highly commended and I will only be so happy to return for another show there.

JVC Square Dance is having a Christmas Break From Dancing

November and December have been very busy with Christmas dances at a number of Clubs around Adelaide.

About eight of our dancers enjoyed a Tuesday night at Hahndorf, with a meal and dancing with the Wild Frontier dancers at their Christmas Dance.

Six of our Dancers visited with Scootback Squares at Salisbury for their Christmas Dance, where we were made most welcome.  We rate Scootback Squares the friendliest Club in Adelaide. Everybody received a Christmas Gift and there were many prizes in the raffle. The dancing was superb with Trevor Hunt, Ian Rutter and John Casey providing the calling.

Eight of our members attended the Christmas breakup at Sunset Twirlers where we sat down to a hearty Chicken Dinner before Square Dancing to Les Tulloch and John Casey.

On 9th December we also had a wonderful Christmas breakup ourselves. Leon and Zaree from Paddlesteamers joined us for our Festivities.  We enjoyed our dancing to John Casey before tucking into some Christmas Cheer. The Christmas Cake was made by the Bakery in Ocean Street and further decorated with all the Christmas Figurines by Jacqueline Baumgartner – there was not much of it left!

JVC Square Dance will be back dancing on the 20th January 2015.

State Convention Over for another year.

We have had a very busy time for the last 3 months with preparation of many things for the 39th South Australian State Convention.   I had offered to modify some very large Cards – Jack, Queen and King of the four suits.  Previously used for a heart fundraiser, they all had hearts on them.  I set about changing them to all suits.

But Jacqueline had much more to do – Hospitality included a lot of cooking for the Saturday Night Supper. Jacqueline also made most of the prizes for the Convention Raffle and Jacqueline and I travelled to most Clubs around Adelaide and even to Naracoorte to sell the tickets.

But if that was not enough, Jacqueline was also talked into making the Dressed Set outfits for Sunset Twirlers. By the start of the Convention on the 29th August we were both burned out.  By the end of the weekend we were a mess.

There were 6 prizes in the raffle – Yes 5 listed on the ticket books and an extra Prize Donated on the Friday Night of the Convention.  The only two to go to non-squaredancers were delivered last week by Jacqueline to private addresses in Victor Harbor and Goolwa.

Busy time For SA Square Dancing

At the present time we are preparing for the 39th SA State Convention at the Irish Australian Association Hall 13-15 Carrington Street Adelaide.   We are also preparing to travel to Naracoorte SA for the Acey Squares 8th Birthday on the 22nd and 23rd August 2014.

With these two events only a week apart we are having to think hard about what we are doing to prepare for a hectic time ahead.

The Square Dancing at the Victor Harbor has been more fun than ever with three squares most weeks.  Yesterday we only had two and a half squares after a couple had to go home during our lunch at McCracken Country Club.  Nothing wrong with the food – just a busy day causing diabetes to get out of control.  A number of our group have lunch at McCracken Country Club each Tuesday before going to Carrickalinga House for the Square Dancing.

We still have a few couples travelling up north for the winter and one member had to go to Perth.

Square Dancing for Fun and Friendship also found at Scootback Squares visit

On Sunday 22nd June a few of our dancers from jvcsquaredance went to the 3rd Birthday Dance of Scootback Squares. This dance was at The Grenville Centre, Elizabeth Town Centre. The Club actually dances on Friday nights at St Johns Anglican Church, in Church Street Salisbury. The Day started at 1.30pm sharp – Ian Rutter is not just a good caller, he is punctual as well. Ian did the MC Duties for the day and proved himself quite capable of the job – after 37 years of Square Dancing I consider myself a reasonable judge of this. The day continued with 4 and 5 squares of dancers on the floor for most brackets. From my viewpoint every dancer who attended had numerous dances and I also observed many changeovers in between numbers. There was a great FUN atmosphere all afternoon. Mid afternoon there was break for smoko and then back to dancing to wear off the lushious spread that was devoured by all. A cup of tea and a few sandwiches filled my stomach and I was glad that I had called the bracket just prior to supper. The day overall was a great example of what Jacqueline and I have experienced each time we visited the Club at Salisbury. The Friendship of this Club and Clarity of Ian’s Calling will always make Dancers want to return for more.

Visitors from Adelaide boosts the numbers.

We had some visitors from Adelaide who boosted our numbers to three squares on Tuesday 10th June. WE were able to make a mainstream square to demonstrate what our learners can look toward being able to achieve by the end of the year.

More New Dancers Arriving to Enjoy the Fun And Friendship

On Tuesday 3rd June 2014 we had four more new dancers arrive to participate in our Square Dancing.

It appears that word is getting around that this is no ordinary Square Dance Group – Sooo True.

The Victor Harbour Senior Citizens Square Dance Group is Truly based on FUN & FRIENDSHIP.

Nobody makes mistakes – some may not do the movements quite the way they were intended – but this only adds more to the fun – Laughter – That is what we like – Laughter is the best Medicine.

Anyone who can walk down the street can Square Dance – Modern Square dancing is movement to music –
Brain Exercise set to music – Whatever you like to call it – so long as it includes FUN
