Wonderful Dancing in Mt Gambier

Firstly I would like to Say what a wonderful occasion it was to be at the Pine City Twirlers 32nd Birthday weekend. Mike Davey was a perfect MC and was well supported by Howard Cockburn. The Cabaret on Monday Night was also a Highlight.

Jacquui and I went to Mt Gambier a day early to attend Allabout Squares Club night which has recently been moved to Thursday Nights. Andrea, Neil Wynn and myself put on a fun night for all her Club dancers and the Visitors as well. Our Learner Dancers are progressing through the Basic Program and a couple are doing well helping out with the Mainstream Program as well as some of our Mainstream dancers are still away. Christine from Paddlesteamers is often with us for an hour or two and we sometimes see Leon as well – thank you both for your support. Our Dancers are looking forward to the Paddlesteamers Denim and Lace 7th Birthday Dance.

JVCSQUAREDANCE is still here

Over the past two months I have been trying different formats for our dance group. Some of these formats must not have worked so I am returning to our original format. We dance on Tuesdays from 1.30pm to 2.30pm and then have afternoon tea (smoko as I see it) followed by more dancing until almost 4pm. As we take beginners at any time we dance Basic 1 until smoko and then alternate Basic 2 and Mainstream after smoko. If there are no dancers still at the Basic 1 level then the before smoko level is increased. Three months ago we were dancing three squares regularly. Recently we have dropped to as low as one and a half squares. I hope that by returning to our original format that we will return to 2 or more squares. Some of our dancers have been away – Common in the southern states for dancers to travel north in the colder months. It is also good to see Roy has returned to dancing after his fight with a chainsaw. Also Chrissy may be returning soon after her problems with her leg. Congratulations to Adelaide Outlaws for a marvellous night of Dancing for their 30th Club Birthday.

Mainstream Square Dance Class in RECESS

Our Mainstream Dancing Group started off a little slow with only 2 nights with a full square. We had a trying time dancing two couples and learning dance by definition. Then trouble struck again with Roy cutting his leg with a chainsaw. So we now have put the Wednesday night into recess until the weather warms up again. The end result of this is that we are back to dancing 2 or 3 Squares on Tuesday Afternoon Carrickalinga Square Dance Class. We currently have 5 brand new dancers who advise it is so much Fun they are bringing another 4 ladies next week.

New Classes running and Visiting other Clubs

4 Square Dancers from Victor Harbour recently visited Scootback Squares and had a very enjoyable night of Square Dancing. Our new Mainstream Dancing Group started off a little slow but is now looking at dance by definition, dancing on Wednesday nights at the Lutheran Church hall in Adelaide Road. Our new learners Class has already started – so far with 1 new dancer. About 8 of our members also attended Sunset Twirlers 20th Birthday Dance. What a wonderful night for Les and Anne Tulloch and their team of members.

New Beginners Class Started

On Tuesday 5 – May – 2015 we commenced a new Beginners intake. We have 1 new beginner so far.
On Tuesdays we commence dancing at 1.30pm and dance for an hour using only Basic 1. We then have Smoko (afternoon tea) and then dance from 2.50 until 4pm at the Basic 2 level. This way we can take beginners at any time and the Learners repeatedly learn the Basic 1 Program before going on to their Basic 2 Class. A good grounding in Basic 1 makes for a much better dancer in the long run. For those who wish to progress to Mainstream we will assess their learning level and invite them to our Wednesday Night Mainstream Group for the Mainstream part of their training.
For Dancers who have Square Danced before in the last 10 years we invite you to come and try at either of our Dance Classes.

Tuesday Afternoon 1.30 to 4pm at Carrickalinga House 17-19 Torrens Street, Victor Harbor. See map on Side.
Beginners Welcome any day.

Wednesday Evening 7.30pm to 9.30pm then supper for experienced dancers at Lutheran Hall 21 Adelaide Road, Victor Harbor SA.
Opposite Toyota, Hyundai & Mitsubishi Dealer.

Graduation and Convention

20150211 whale
The Square Dancers of Victor Harbour recently graduated after only 10 months of dancing – you see we had 6 weeks off in December January. We started in April last year with 11 Dancers – made up of 6 Angels and 5 new dancers. This quickly grew thanks to Happy FM radio 90.1. After just three weeks we had 18 new dancers and the six Angels. On the 14th March we graduated 13 of the new dancers and three others are still dancing with us. These three are not going beyond the Basics and are happy dancing at that level. Last weekend at the National Convention we had 6 dancers and a caller represent JVCSquareDance. It goes without saying that we all had a wonderful time and have returned home absolutely Exhausted. Most of the dancers now realise that there is a new goal to be reached and this will be achieved more easily with our new Mainstream Dancing starting soon. Australian National Square Dance Convention is upon us.

Most of the dancers in JVCSquareDance are packing tonight to attend the http://www.adelaide2015.com which is of course South Australia’s chance to show the rest of Australia and indeed the world what we can offer. There are Square Dancers from around the world converging on our Capital City – ADELAIDE – in particular

The Gardens Recreation Centre
Cnr Kings and Martins Roads
Parafield Gardens
South Australia 5107

I Know that there are Square Dancers from China and Japan who have chosen to come here to celebrate with us.

If you are unsure of what Square Dancing is, then come along to the above address during any of the programmed sessions and have a look – there is no fee for spectators. Just check out the programme on http://www.adelaide2015.com to find a dance session that might suit your timetable. Probably the evening sessions from Thursday to Monday night would be the most colourful.

Square Dancing is for Fun and Friendship and there is no competition at our National Conventions.

See You There – If You Like you could text me to meet you at the door.

Square Dancing at Goolwa Shopping Centre

Approximately 12 dancers from the JVCSquareDance group at Victor Harbour were in attendance at the Goolwa Shopping Centre in support of the Volunteer Radio Station 90.1 or Happy FM as we know it.

At about 11am we were about to start when I was told that we had some interstate visitors watching.  After our first bracket of three dances I invited them to join in.  This now made two sets of eight dancers – it looked so good – it even showed that it is OK to dance in casual wear.  Thank you to our interstate dancers for helping us put on a wonderful display of dancing.

Our dancers were making a few mistakes and I even had the odd misnomer.  Everyone kept dancing and smiling and showing those who were watching that you do not need to be an expert to have a lot of fun with Square dancing.
